How it works

Pure Memorial gives the people you have lost a calm page of their own — and gives a family spread across the world one place to remember them together.

  1. Start with their name
  2. Add their story and photos
  3. Send the link to family
  4. Optional: verification and search

1. Start with their name

Start with their name — that's all you need to begin. Add the dates now, only the year, or later. It's free, with no card, and no death certificate or other documents are needed.

2. Add their story and photos

Then, whenever you're ready, add:

  • the dates you didn't have yet and a few words about their life;
  • photos — we resize them for the web, and you choose the main one (up to 10 on the Free plan, up to 50 with Premium);
  • the place where they rest, marked on a map, so visitors can get directions to the grave;
  • their faith tradition, if you wish — the page then shows its symbol.

Everything you write and every photo is checked automatically before it appears, so a memorial page stays a respectful place.

3. Send the link to family

Copy the page link and send it any way you like — messengers show it with a card bearing their name and photo. You can also invite relatives and friends by e-mail with a personal note, straight from the page (up to 20 a day, or 10 while the page isn't verified).

Anyone with the link can see the photos, find the grave on a map and leave a memory. They don't need an account: they write their name and, if they like, how they knew the person.

People who receive an invitation can turn invitations off with one click; we never add anyone to a mailing list.

Who can see it

  • Public. Anyone can open it, and once verified it can appear in search engines.
  • Unlisted. Anyone with the link can open it. It stays out of search engines.
  • Private. Only you can open it.

New pages start as Unlisted. You can change this at any time.

Optional: verification and search

A family page works without a death certificate. Verifying adds the Verified badge, and lets a Public page appear in search engines, so people can find it by their name. Until then, visitors see that it's a family page that hasn't been verified.

Upload a phone photo or scan of the certificate from your dashboard: PDF, JPEG or PNG, from any country and in any language. It's checked automatically against the page, usually within a few minutes; if anything is unclear, a person on our team looks at it as soon as we can. You get an e-mail when it's done.

The check makes sure no one can show a memorial for a living person in search engines. The certificate is kept in private storage, is never shown on the page, and is deleted with the memorial.

Your data is yours

You can download everything your account holds at any time from your dashboard, in one ZIP file: each memorial with its photos and certificates, the memories left on it, and the memories, reports and invitations you've written. Deleting a memorial deletes its photos and documents too.

Memories from visitors

Anyone who can open the page can leave a memory or a few words of comfort, with an account or without one. Each one is checked automatically; anything unclear waits for a person on our team. As the page's creator you can ask to approve memories before they appear, delete any memory, or turn memories off for the page — the ones already shared are kept and come back if you turn them on again.

If something on a memorial is wrong — or the person is alive — anyone signed in can report it from the bottom of the page. A report that the person is alive hides the page until we have checked it.

Every faith, and none

You can mark the page with a faith tradition — Orthodox Christian, Catholic, Protestant, Sunni Islam, Shia Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism — or choose secular or other. The symbol appears next to their name, and in place of a portrait when there is no photo.

A page never needs photos to be complete. Many Muslim families prefer a memorial without pictures of the person: tick No photos on this memorial and visitors see no photos at all — not on the page, and not in the preview card when the link is shared.

Ready when you are

Your first memorial page is free, and you can come back to it at any time.
